Haven't done much musically due to house hunting and whatnot. If I haven't mentioned it before let me tell you it is quite possibly the biggest pain in ass. At any rate. I won't get much accomplished until this stuff is settled one way or the other.

*sigh

Hang in there people...I will if you do..:)

Oh yeah...STLGOTHIC is back up....

For those not in the know....

STLGOTHIC is back up....

Wednesday, January 21, 2004

The new track has been given to "most" local DJ's in one way or another. Either CD or a link to the Mp3 I put up. If your a DJ I missed or even from somewhere else and are interested, email me and I'll send you a link to download it. I will most likely tweak a bit more on it before I put it on the new CD, but not enough that the average person would notice.

I thought it was finished enough to at least get some feedback. Plus I have caught grief from people saying I should get stuff out there even if the CD isn't done, just to get people familiar with it and whatnot...so I was won over there. Might as well. If it get's played cool...if not...*shrug* I'll only play the game to a certain point...ass kissin is where I draw the line. Always have always will. When I feel I have to suck up just to get a song in rotation...I won't. Either the music stands on it's own or it doesn't. So onward I go. Tweaked another new track I had sequenced earlier this month. I may try to get some vocals done before we move. The studio will be in pieces for about a week or so. Then perhaps Will Z can make it over. I heard last night Jeff moved. Christ ...I had no idea...thats how much we have been communicating hehe. Well not to worry...we have had our moments of non communication before and it's not like we're pissed at each other. We both just kind of "disappear" for awhile. So after the move I need to actually find out what's up. I suspect real life is fucking with him as much as it is with me. S.O.P. as we say...

People let me tell you though....If real life would take a break long enough for us to work only on music, you have no idea what myself, Jeff, Will and Sasha could actually come up with. The possibilities boggle my mind and frustrate me to no end...what goes on in my head doesn't even compare to what I have been cranking out the last year or so. But without the proper time and face it money, I can only do what I can do. And some think it's great...and I would agree some of it is although I have wriitten my share of "average" songs, but at least to me what you have all heard doesn't match up with what's in my head. It's hard to explain but for one the production would be much better. I'm a picky bastard about it. If I hear one little thing wrong I'll mess with forever. I've had to come to terms with the fact that I just can't do that if I want to even release anything. So I have had to "let some things go"...and true most people wouldn't even hear it or care. That isn't the point here though.

Anyway....there are a few people that stand out in this town as far as musicianship\creativity\songwriting. I'm not going to single anyone out because then if I leave someone out..well let's not go there....But I respect what every band in this town tries to do, but a few stand out to me. Excluding myself... 3 of them happen to be in this band with me.

If you can't appreciate the humor in this...it most likely is directed at you....enjoy.

So I've been listening to the new track now called "The Mirror" to the point of irritation on those around me. But I have to. I'm a perfectionist. I have to get it "right" or as right as I can with the equipment I have. Anyway, I'm going to redo the vocal track. I have finally gotten comfortable with the way I'm singing it. It's a bit different. So now that I have it down, I need to redo it. I also made the break longer and added some vocal parts. So I'm going to attempt it today if everyone will leave me the hell alone. Part of recording at home I dislike. I have to juggle between time with family and band stuff. If I had a studio somewhere else then I wouldn't have that problem. But then I couldn't just write or record when inspiration hit me. Ying and Yang. Whatever. A seperate building off the property with a padlock?....hmmmm?...hehehe.

Going to be moving soon so the studio gets torn down and put back up. I hate that. So there may be a lapse in musical progress for a week. Real life bites ass.

Anyhoo...I AM working on stuff.

The comment system is down until the weekend, not that anyone gives a shit. So save it until then...if you can't then it wasn't all that damned important anyway..;)

Finishing up a new track called "Mirror". Aside from some little things here and there it's basically complete. It does incorporate some things I have not done before so it remains to be seen if it's actually "good". I may bring a rough copy to the Den for the hell of it....I dunno...does it really matter? I also have lyrics written for another new track called "You Wander". The music is sitting nicely in my head until I can get it sequenced. Perhaps this weekend. It promises to be something slightly different as well. I also have some bits and pieces circling my brain. So I'm in writing mode despite my general disposition regarding "other" things in life. We'll see how long it lasts. So far lyrically I've raised the bar a bit. Well at least to me. I've always had complicated stuff running around my brain, but I thought at one time a simpler approach would serve this music better. Again I think to fucking much. It's always better to just "let it be". Must try to remember that. Second guessing what "you" will like will simply turn to shit...no offence....beside I wonder if "you" even exist at times.

Interesting at least to me, I had intended on speeding up new material a bit as far as BPM's or shall we say "thump factor". In other words towards a more EBM style. So far I have slower, although quite danceable beats coming out of my head. I always loved the "half - time" feel to songs in Alternative\Rock music. A good example would be Linkin Park or Tool. The drums are playing a half - time beat under faster melodies. Hard to explain if you don't know, but I dig that "feel". At any rate if it comes naturally then it's better, so I'll let "what I feel" dictate the beats. Beside EBM is SO overdone in a bad way. Some stands out as different, but it suffers from the same thing Techno did. Monotony.

It has occurred to me I am the only one writing....that I know of. Frankly I have no clue what the hell Jeff is doing or wants to do. Sasha is so damn hard to nail down, it's better if I bring her in at a later stage. Will Z has inquired, but I've been so back and forth in my moods lately that it may be best I continue to lock myself away. I don't know. All I know is I'm writing...tomorrow that may change.

Later...

I'll be updating things a bit but I doubt I'll be journal writing much.

A. Not enough going on bandwise to bother.

B. I'm hating people right now...you understand right?... I thought so...

In fact other than music I'm thinking of taking a sabbatical from the computer and any online communication...no offence to anyone. Those who still really need or want to get ahold of me know how.

Adios...

Oh remember that "suffering for the sake of art" post a few days ago?....guilty as charged...but not intentionally.
Oh well .....ought to get some material out of this if I don't decide to throw in the towel which has been on my mind lately for some reason. I mean I want to write but I have been feeling like it's time to just get it over with. And no not just today. Strange to say the least.

Whatever.

Funny how when your actually "living" you never have time for these things and when your not you end up posting useless crap in these day after day. Anyway been awhile. It seems it's time I cleaned up the site a bit since there are some links I need to get rid of and some pic\flyers I should move somewhere else. So hopefully sometime this week I can sit down and play a bit.

Got the bug to write but between "life" and slight computer issues I'm procrastinating. I've been asked by numerous people when we are playing next. I can't honestly say. I would rather not until we have some new material to promote, but if the right show came along I would say "Why not". So I'm saying February but I just don't know. The other thing that makes it hard to say is some collaboration talks have come up. I am ALWAY'S looking to do those kinds of things because I think it tends to keep a person in perspective about their own material. It helps to keep things "fresh" too. So there are some things being talked about and who knows it may never happen, but at least one "project" has my definite interest. So I am torn abit on what to concentrate on. Of course if I actually had MORE TIME to work on these things it wouldn't be a problem working on more than one thing.. argh. Anyway little things are happening behind the scenes so don't fret....we're just taking a breather and re-grouping.
